Job Description
Southeast Chemical Sales Territory Manager: primary responsibility is to manage sales of specialty chemicals to customers and prospective customers in an assigned multi-state territory.  The Regional Sales Manager is expected to develop an in-depth knowledge of products, services and markets in order to match the Company’s offerings to both existing and prospective customer needs.  The Regional Sales Manager also is expected to build and maintain long-term, lasting business relationships through effective communication, technical consultation, and knowledge of products, applications and industry trends.  Must effectively communicate internally (i.e. customer call reports) as well as including developing and continually updating forecasts, market trends and competitive activity in a timely fashion.  Prefer someone in southeast like eastern NC or eastern SC or eastern TN or VA.

This position reports to the Director of Sales & Marketing and is responsible for selling a variety of chemicals to be used in different industries - position is open due to promotion.  Will service existing accounts within his/her assigned region including, but are not limited to:  obtaining orders, establishing new accounts, resolving customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports and making recommendations to management for increasing sales.  The significant challenges of the position are to grow business and market share with existing customers, obtain new customers, and pursue the development of additional domestic channels. MUST COME FROM CHEMICAL INDUSTRY - NOT CATALOG, or CHEMICAL DISTRIBUTION.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably Chemistry, Polymer Science, Biology, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 3-10 years’ experience  in the chemical, metalworking additives, polymer additives, flame retardants, petrochemical, refining, gas or pharmaceutical industries with direct one-on-one outside customer sales and account management responsibility or related experience.
  • Successful track record of managing critical business relationships.
  • Must possess and exhibit a high level of technical skills with the ability to effectively communicate and sell to various levels and departments of existing and prospective customer organizations.
  • Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages and customer value.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic plans and market analysis.
  • Experience with sales elements of ERP commercial systems is a plus.
QUALIFICATION:
  • To be successful in this position include building strong relationships and business partnerships with customers, knowledge of technical / chemistry product applications and terminology unique to the chemical industry; creativity; time management; and the ability to communicate in non-technical terms to non-technical individuals
  • Must possess and exhibit a high level of technical skills with the ability to effectively communicate and sell to various levels and departments of existing and prospective customer organizations.
  • Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages and customer value.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic plans and market analysis.
  • Experience with sales elements of ERP commercial systems is a plus. sales volume within the region, highlighting competitive activity, addressing customer / market needs with Product Development and / or Technical Service.  
  • Must be professional, ethical, results and business-oriented with a strong work ethic. The experience to grow existing customers and to aggressively develop prospective customers through face-to-face selling.
  • Must be able to work independently and manage his/her work time effectively.
  • Should have the potential to effectively lead and manage others.
  • Ability to influence and develop high level relationships (both internal and external).
  • High level of ethics and integrity is an absolute requirement.
  • Microsoft Office, Excel and Power Point proficiency is required.
  • Proven record of exceeding established sales budgets and time/territory management skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Home office base is required. - prefer someone in the Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh maybe VA or SC areas so they don't have to relocate
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the assigned territory. Overnight travel expected.
  • Domestic travel via personal automobile and commercial air transportation (both domestically and internationally) for sustained periods of time is required.  Some international travel may on occasion be required.
  • Valid active driver’s license is required.
  • Exposed to outside weather elements (heat, cold, rain, snow) for relatively short periods of time.
  • Must be able to work around hazardous chemicals and exposure to dust.
  • Must be able to use and wear appropriate PPE when in manufacturing / laboratory areas and comply with all safety and health policies and procedures.

  • Work requires standing in a stationary position, walking, sitting at a desk, in an automobile or airplane, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects typically weighing up to 10 pounds routinely and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • The ability to ascend and descend stairs, work from heights as required, bend at the waist, kneel, and squat.
  • Ability to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; use telephone; use a keyboard.
  • Must be flexible to required work hours and industry conference attendance, domestic and international.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms and paging.
  • Ability to move freely around manufacturing, laboratory, office, and building site areas.
  • Ability to adapt to and function effectively to international travel, time zones differences, culture, accommodations, cultural / lifestyle nuances, etc.
